Supporting the Voices That Shaped Us
Why We Support NPR
If you grew up listening to Click and Clack, the Tappet Brothers, on Car Talk in the back seat...
If your Sunday mornings sounded like Wait Wait... Don’t Tell Me, Fresh Air, or This American Life drifting in from another room...
If you’ve ever sat in the driveway just to hear the end of a story...
Then you already understand why NPR matters.
It’s not just background sound. It’s part of how we learned to listen — with curiosity, with care, and with the belief that thoughtful storytelling still has a place in the world.
At From The Andes, we believe in protecting what’s worth keeping: the handmade, the meaningful, the true.
That includes the art we collect — and the public voices we stand beside.
10% of Every Retail Purchase Goes to NPR
From The Andes donates 10% of every retail sale, online, directly to National Public Radio — every month.
Our giving begins the moment our store opens. After launch, we will publish a public monthly donation statement so you can see exactly what your purchase made possible.
A link to our first giving report will appear here once live.
Why NPR
NPR taught us that news could be gentle and rigorous.
That a Tiny Desk could host a world of music.
That public discourse could still be intelligent, generous, and real.
Whether you found NPR through Terry Gross, Planet Money, or All Songs Considered, you know what it feels like to hear something honest — something that stays with you.
NPR doesn’t shout. It doesn’t chase clicks.
It informs. It reflects. It lasts.
Why Now
In 2025, the Trump administration renewed its effort to eliminate federal funding for NPR and PBS — reviving a long-standing threat to public broadcasting.
This isn’t speculative. It’s real. And it puts one of the last independent media institutions at risk.
We believe businesses — especially cultural ones — can no longer afford to be neutral.
We believe NPR shouldn’t have to fight for survival.
And we believe that when public institutions are under pressure, the public should step in.
So we are.
This Isn’t Charity. It’s Cultural Continuity.
When you buy from From The Andes, you’re supporting artists and craft traditions from around the world.
You’re choosing intentional design over disposability.
And now, you’re also helping keep independent journalism alive — for yourself, for others, and for the next generation of listeners.
Supporting NPR is not an add-on. It’s part of our mission to preserve stories — whether told through textiles or through radio waves.
Thank you for helping us protect something we’ve all grown up with — even if we didn’t realize how much it mattered at the time.
Our Public Pledge to NPR
We reached out directly to NPR’s development team with a letter outlining our support. In that letter, we offered:
-
A permanent 10% pledge from all retail proceeds
-
Public transparency through monthly donation reports
-
A request to reference NPR’s name and mission in our giving statements
You can read the full open letter here:

We will update that page with any response we receive. Until then, our giving begins the moment we open.
